Japan remains a top 5 market

Chablis wines are not immune to the broader decline in wine consumption in Japan. Shipments have fallen to their lowest level in the past decade.

Over the past two years, Japan has lost its position as the third-largest export market for Chablis by value. It nonetheless remains firmly within the top five export markets for the region.

In 2025, Chablis accounted for 23% of Bourgogne wine exports to Japan by volume (the third-largest AOC group exported) and 12% by value.

Bourgogne white wines have long held a strong position in this market, with Chablis playing a central role. They represent 39% of Bourgogne white wine volumes shipped to Japan.
