PIERRICK LAROCHE, Winner of the Young Talents award

The competition, organized by the Groupement des Jeunes Professionnels de la Vigne et du Vin, is open to winemakers who are less than 40 years old, or who have been producing for less than five years. Each domain submits three different wines. This year, the competition focused on the 2019 vintage.

It takes place in two phases: 60 jurors first make a preselection of three domains per wine region, and then the year’s two official patrons together taste the 63 wines of the 21 preselected domains to narrow it down to the 7 winners.

Margot DUCANCEL, instagrammer and founder of the club Rouge aux Lèvres, and Olivier BORNEUF, founder of the magazine La Tulipe Rouge and of L’académie des vins et spiritueux, were the patrons of this 33rd edition of the awards.

The jury is composed of wine professionals as well as highly qualified amateurs. A distinctive aspect of the competition is that awards are made for the quality of the winemaker, for the excellence of his products, and not for a particular wine, but rather for the entirety of his work.

This year, the Young Talents trophy for the Chablis wine region was awarded to Pierrick Laroche of the Domaine des Hâtes. This family domain manages 28 hectares with sustainable practices, and produces three appellations: Petit Chablis, Chablis, and Chablis Premier Cru. The domain started bottling its wines with the 2010 vintage.
