27 medal-winning wines at the 38th Chablis Wine Competition

The Competition of Chablis Wines, organised by the Office du Chablis in partnership with the Bourgogne Wine Board (BIVB), took place on Saturday January 20, 2024, under the presidency of leading French sommelier: Jean-Luc Jamrozik, President of the Association des Sommeliers de Paris.

This year, the 63 members of the jury tasted the 2022 vintage of the Petit Chablis, Chablis and Chablis Premier Cru appellations, and the 2021 vintage of the AOC Chablis Grand Cru. They awarded 27 medals out of the 335 wines tasted, an increase in the number of entries thanks in particular to the excellent harvest in 2022 after a more difficult year in 2021.

A special feature of this competition is that professionals entering their wines are not allowed to be members of the jury. The panel includes journalists, restaurant owners, sommeliers, wine traders, oenologists, wine growers and enlightened amateurs.

The wines are judged in two rounds of tasting: the wines that score highest in the first round, when they are sampled by all the tasters, are then put before a “super” jury, which selects the medal winners.

Jean-Luc Jamrozik

Jean-Luc Jamrozik had wanted to go into the restaurant business ever since he was a teenager. He attended a hotel management school in Compiègne, where he obtained diplomas in catering and hospitality and it was while he was doing his internships that he discovered the role of sommelier. He then specialised in sommellerie at L’Université du Vin in Suze-la-Rousse. His growing enthusiasm for the profession and a need to learn English took him to England, notably to Le Gavroche in London.
On his return to France in 1983, he went to work at the Sofitel Paris Baltimore, where he became head sommelier, a position he held for over 30 years.
In 2018, he left this job to embark on a new adventure, joining his son Quentin Jamrozik and his friend Michel Lannou in setting up the online sales platform "D'Or et de Vins". He now selects the "star" wines offered by this virtual boutique and advises Internet users.
At the same time, Jean-Luc Jamrozik has been a long-standing member of the board of the Union de la Sommellerie Française, and since 2007 has been president of the Association des Sommeliers de Paris. One of his aims in this role is to pass on his knowledge to new generations of sommeliers.
